Taiwan Academies open in three U.S. cities
2011-10-16

The concept of establishing the Taiwan Academy was originally outlined by President Ma Ying-jeou of the Republic of China as a way of building upon Taiwan's status as a center of Chinese culture. Of the many regions influenced by Chinese culture, Taiwan has best preserved and developed such elements as Confucian studies, Buddhism, Zen Buddhism, literature, architecture, handicrafts, and traditional customs.

To facilitate the regular holding of lectures and activities in the areas of philosophy, literature and the arts, and the provision of related information, Taiwan Academies are being established in many locations overseas with the aid of foreign organizations. These centers, it is hoped, will enhance Taiwan's cultural exchanges with the international community.
